The planet Saturn, or the God Shani as referred in Indian astrology and mythology, is one that is testing and strict. It is said there are 7.5 years of Shani's tumultuous effects on one's life, causing testing and significant life events. It is said that those who brave the challenges with honesty, integrity, and hardworking are rewarded by Shani is abundance, while those who attempt dishonesty taught a lesson...

A Taal (rhythm cycle) of a rare 7.5 beats - novel rhythmic appeal due to its structure - created as a symbolic offering to Shani. First performed as a Taal in July 2018, Prerana then made it a production driven through music and instruments, with each artist embellishing the piece in their own way.

This production came to life in 2019, with world renowned Sitar maestro Pt Ravi Chary leading the musical accompaniment, while Ishwari Deshpande led Kathak, along with uniquely talented young artists - Krushna Salunke on Pakhawaj, Umesh Warbhuvan on Djembe and Cajon, Shravan Samsi (son of renowned Tabla maestro Pt Yogesh Samsi) on Drums, Aditya Apte on Vocals, and Abhishek Shinkar on Harmonium.  The resultant production was unique, energetic, and captivating  - a one-of-a-kind show. It was blessed by the presence of Padma Shri Dr Sunil Kothari who wrote a glorious review in Narthaki, and Guru Sucheta Chapekar. The music to this Taal, the lyrics, the compositions and choreography all allude to the theme of Shani and are all composed by Prerana. Percussion, music, vocals, and Kathak, come together to bring this vibrant production to life.

The Taal itself can be performed as a solo or in a group choreography separate from a production. In all its presentations till date, it has received applause and high praise each time.
